Decision Tree – FAQ
Is this medically sound?
Yes. We have taken great care and assembled a fabulous team of experts in the surgical, oncologic (cancer), and plastics fields to help us get it right. Our clinical advisors have carefully reviewed all content, to ensure that the Decision Tree reflects the most accurate and up-to-date information about treatment procedures.
What is a Decision Tree?
It’s a way of visualizing the different treatment options and decision points that come up during the course of illness; from diagnosis to the completion of treatment.
Will this tool tell me what decision to make?
No, it won’t. This tool is designed to help you navigate the treatment options, understand them, and make sense of them. We won’t tell you what decision to make because we believe that this is something that all patients should do in consultation with their medical team.

I want to donate or I have donated, but where will my money go?
Your money goes directly toward enhancing the Decision Tree and getting the word out to doctors and newly diagnosed breast cancer patients. Since the board, experts, and other talent at Be the Choice are donating their time, we can put all of our financial resources into making the Decision Tree better for users.
This site is Canadian, right?
Yes. Be the Choice was developed in Ottawa. But our leadership, experts, and volunteers are from all over the world.
I don’t live in Canada, does the information on this website still apply to me?
Good question. It is true that treatment possibilities can vary from country to country and regionally as well. We have tried to address this issue by outlining general treatment pathways that all patients can reasonably expect, no matter where they live.
I don’t understand some of the terminologies that are being used, what should I do?
We tried to be as user friendly as possible. Please send us any words that we forgot to define. Your feedback is really important to us. Please contact us at superfolks@bethechoice.org and we will be happy to provide more information.
