At Be the Choice, we\u2019ve always said that patients need us. As we witnessed surgeries and treatments being delayed, we knew this was truer now than ever before. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For this reason, we dedicated time and effort to improving the site and reaching out to patients and their families. We are extremely proud to have reached over 27,000 users through the Be the Choice website!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As we wrap up 2021, we would like to reflect on all that we\u2019ve accomplished this year\u2026<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We were featured as one of the first Clinician and Patient Resources on the Canadian Society of Surgical Oncology website (Ok maybe this was the end of 2020, but we\u2019re still celebrating! Check it out \u2014 <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.csso.surgery\/clinician-and-patient-resources\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">https:\/\/www.csso.surgery\/clinician-and-patient-resources<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">)\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We kicked off the year with our Executive Director and Co-Founder, Dr. Melanie Adrian being awarded the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/bethechoice.org\/2019-order-of-ontario\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Order of Ontario<\/span><\/a> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2014 the province\u2019s highest civilian honour.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We collaborated with students from the University of Ottawa Faculty of Medicine, Selam Ogbalidet, Mina Boshra, and Melanie Grondin to conduct a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/bethechoice.org\/be-the-choice-pilot-study-university-of-ottawa\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">pilot study<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> that evaluates the usefulness of the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/bethechoice.org\/tree\/test\/breast-cancer-diagnosed\/decision-trees\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Decision Trees<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> for patients with breast cancer who are undergoing breast reconstruction<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We added <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/bethechoice.org\/covid-19\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">additional resources<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/bethechoice.org\/tree\/test\/breast-cancer-diagnosed\/decision-trees\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Decision Trees<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to provide patients with even more information on their treatment pathways.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We expanded our presence on social media to Instagram!
