Selam Ogbalidet is a MD candidate at the University of Ottawa Faculty of Medicine. Selam’s clinical interests lie in plastic and reconstructive surgery, while her research interests range from facial cosmetic surgery to immediate and delayed breast reconstruction. Selam is the co-investigator of a pilot study examining the effects of a clinical decision tree on patient confidence, empowerment, and health literacy in breast cancer patients. Since joining the Be the Choice team, Selam has been privileged to learn about the personal narratives of women who have been diagnosed with breast cancer and how medical trainees can better assist them throughout their breast cancer journey. With this valuable insight, Selam has gone on to empower patients with breast cancer while educating their loved ones and members of their care team in the process.
