All of the benign lesions require a surgical excision and evaluation under a microscope by a breast pathologist. In 8-15% of cases these lesions are associated with DCIS or very rarely an invasive cancer and that is why excision is important. If however, DCIS or invasive cancer is not found on excision, no further surgical treatment is required.
