Monitoring
A variety of patients will be considered to have a high risk of having a breast cancer. High risk patients may benefit from high risk screening strategies using MRI as a screening tool. MRI as a screening tool only applies to these high risk patients and is not useful as a screening tool in the average population. The following patients are eligible for high risk screening with MRI:
- BRCA1 and BRCA2 carriers
- Patient having had chest wall radiation for lymphoma
- Patients with a lifetime risk of breast cancer over 25% as calculated by IBIS or Gail model (often patients with DCIS, ADH, ALH)
- patients with LCIS
